I don't want to like go into Zen and all that for a dissertation in a 4chan thread, but basically it means you're at one with you're decision and you know that what you're standing for with your immolation is worthy. It's a symbolic death that is powerful, meant to show you how dedicated you are to what you believe in.
I know that sounds a little cult-like, and personally I'm very against taking your own life. But in Buddhist faith, death is but part of the cycle. Like another anon said, it is part of the curse of life as we didn't do "well enough" to ascend, but we must accept it to learn enough to reach Nirvana. We hope the acts we do impact the world in a positive way to reach true enlightenment in this world and help others reach it as well. I respect the choice to self immolate if the cause is worthy such as the stopping of the Vietnam War or climate justice with the most recent one this year on the supreme court steps.
