To stop certain books with sensitive material from being stolen by someone not able to legally purchase it, the books might not even be at the main student bookstore. I've had to buy the restricted textbooks or support materials from my engineering department bookstore. The biochemistry majors were the same way with almost all their biochem textbooks sold only inside their main biochem building bookstore to authorized biochem students. I guess they don't want to educate illegal drug makers or hedgerow doctors. You can't even enter the building with your student ID card if the campus computer doesn't show you registered for a course inside that building.
