To the zoomzooms here, shitting on the American political right might sound leftist, but back then public opinion was the opposite of what it was now: neocons were the popular group, the religious right still had considerable stopping power, and Democrats had a reasonable claim to the title of underdog. Political correctness was still in its infancy and drew massive criticism. Had /pol/ been around back then, they would have been worshipping Jon Steward as "our guy" and making anti-Bush image macros (as we called then back then) like these:
