>>704030Same here. You mean to tell me that a compelling story about interesting multi-faceted characters told in a unique way with aesthetically pleasing and meaningful visuals is "reddit-ass shit"? Just because the empty headed plebs mention it there doesn't mean it's bad or Reddit-tier. That opinion didn't even come from them. They're just quoting from the many, many "best anime ever" lists they see floating around the internet. I'll bet my left nut that 60% of those faggotrons haven't even seen it. Saying you like something because you saw it on multiple "best of" lists is reddit-tier, but so is hating something because those bugmen pretend to like it. A broken clock is right twice a day, you know.
Here's a rec you haven't gotten because no one's seen it: Kuuchuu Buranko. It has a bizarre art style that, granted, takes some getting used to at first but it meshes well with the story. It's about a psychiatrist who helps people with their problems. Each episode is focused on a charcter and their stories overlap, like in Tatami Galaxy (ooh better not invoke that name or the R*dditors might come). It's only 11 episodes long so it's not a huge time investment. Watch it and if you don't feel SOMETHING during ep 10 then there's no helping you.
Another rec which you've probably seen: Paranoia Agent. Great story, great atmosphere and it does a great job exploring sociological themes like mob hysteria and mass panics. Really good stuff.
Mononoke has been mentioned here and I second the recommendation. The art is insane and the stories are really engaging and can get kind of dark, but more in a mature way than in a modern writing sort of way.
If you want something artsy and nice to look at that isn't really as serious you should check out Cat Soup. An endlessly re-watchable 30 minute short film.
