Possibly related: There's a cumulative update I can try to install from Windows Update. When I try, it downloads and then begins installing, hangs at 20% for a *very* long time, and then jumps to 100% before giving an error saying that the update couldn't be installed.
There's a very real possibility something's wrong with my HDD with the specific problems I've been having, but I got it brand new last October to replace an HDD that actually did die after 9 years of use.
