Anyways, I was looking for an apartment home, and the manager gave me a tour. He simply went to an apartment home that was sized similar to the one I was looking for, used his manager key, and let me walk into someone's apartment home for a quick look. That apartment owner had a tall gun safe. It was heavy so that's why he had a ground floor apartment home. I did end up renting an apartment home there, but remembered that the manager could always inspect my apartment with someone else in tow. And no, these weren't dumpster dive apartments full of managers that don't care anymore about anything. These were apartment home type apartments. There's a considerable amount of privacy between residents. As an example, my apartment was on the 3rd floor with an enclosed stairwell lit by a chandelier. All the steps were carpeted and the stairwell had its own locking door. There is only one apartment per floor on this stairwell, so there is no reason for any thief to loiter pretending to be waiting for someone. And to even do that, they'd have to get pass the locking front door whereupon they are confronted with the lobby and one locked apartment front door per landing. It was so secure that people put their bicycles on the landing outside their front door without even locking them sometimes. The manager and maintenance crew live on-site in their own apartments.
As nice as they were, I never forgot that someone I didn't know could enter the premises when I wasn't home. Just like that apartment whose residents weren't home when the manager took me over.
