>>1291213>adapt to a changing worlddon't get me wrong, i'm extremely impressed with what openai are doing. the chatbot is phenomenal and every new thing they showcase is a huge leap ahead from the previous one.
BUT, and this is a huge BUT, the world isn't changing as fast as many people seem to believe. these advances in artificial intelligence are based on 30+ year old concepts and algorithms being implemented on state of the art hardware. these systems, as impressive as they may seem, are nothing but statistical models. nothing has changed much and we kind of know what to expect.
the way these models work nowadays is they take unimaginable amounts of data and process it the same way they did 15 years ago. what makes it different now is, for the past 10 years both the data and the processing power have increased drastically.
im not denying the world is changing, im trying to tell you that it changes in a predictable and expected manner. we dont have algorithms for creating the type of machine intelligence you think we already have.
i have bachelors in data science and statistics and have been in the field for years. every "groundbraking ai" you see as of today is, in it's core, a genius 30yo concept running full of new age data and new age hardware.
i dont really wanna have prolonged discussions because most of you people seem to have made up your minds that ai is pretty much advanced enough to replace artists and programmers, but most of you also have no experience in the matter and by experience i don't mean professional experience. you haven't taken the time to read how these things work, to get involved with the statistical and mathematical side of neural networks, machine learning and big data.
the world is changing alright, and i wish we had ex machina type of ai already. but we dont and wont any time soon, if ever.
