Is it possible that my PC’s failure to turn on the first time I press the power button is caused by the PSU?
Here’s what’s happening: I have a very old power supply, and recently I started needing to press the power button dozens of times before the system finally turns on. At first, I thought the problem might be with the case button, but I tested by shorting the power switch pins directly with a screwdriver, and the PC still wouldn’t start. That made me think the issue was with the motherboard.
However, I just installed a brand-new motherboard, and the exact same problem is happening. The PSU still provides power to the components (the standby LED seems to work), but the motherboard doesn’t actually start on the first attempt. Even when I try shorting the pins on the new board, it still doesn’t respond right away.
Am I in for a new PSU?
