Like the title says, I'm 36 and I don't speak a single Japanese word and yet I'm fascinated about that country and I really want to study the language until one day I'll be able to visit and hopefully understand at least some basic things, maybe even have a small conversation with someone.
I'm Italian but of course I also speak English, I saw that using online translators the translation from and to Japanese seems to always be more accurate when I use English rather than Italian, therefore I'm not sure if I should study using an Italian or an English based course, but my main fear is that given my age I'm out of time to do something like this, considered that I also need to learn a new alphabet and alien texts.
Is my dream attainable or should I just wait for simultaneous universal Star Trek translators?
How should I start learning Japanese? Should I go to a language school or using a text book manual is fine too? Are there reliable online learning services?
Thanks.
