As for serious photoshop use where you do draw on the layers, you will need a video drawing tablet. It's far more natural to draw directly on the image itself rather than with a stylus as you are glancing on a monitor. A URL below shows an example of what I am talking about. Wacom makes a better one, but there is nothing like drawing directly on the illustration itself as that is more natural feeling.
