Remember that youtube also unsubscribes users after a period of time if those users BOTH (1) don't access your channel for awhile and (2) haven't interacted/posted in the channel. Youtube also censors some channels and has a higher than usual unsubscription rate for channels their woke moderators hate.
SHORTS are used to drive people to visit the main channel and subscribe.
If your channel has unique material, then it should prosper. If it is a highly competitive area, then being always positive goes a long ways as does having frequent content. I see some of the popular food channels "plagiarize" other far less known but inventive food channels. To make sure their channel cannot get blamed, they will do it very sloppy almost parody, but the end food product made and eaten will be done properly (it isn't the one shown being made). In this way, the high quantity channel "steals" the materiall of the very very low rate food channel.
