I recommend .22lr to start her off, and yourself if you're new to shooting.
There are ranges that let you rent full-auto guns for when you two get more experienced.
Also when you get more experienced I'd recommend getting into muzzeloader shooting. It has the fun of regular shooting only it's much more relaxing. Choosing your own load, taking the time to load the shot and the big puff of smoke combined with the massive hole on the target paper make for great relaxing fun. Just be careful and do your research as you don't want to overload it.
