I could come up with the Watamote manga, the anime sucks because of comedy focus instead of a harsh reality check.
Also .hack//sign, specially because of its NEUTRAL standpoint of escapism, the honor of being a show about a videogame in the 21th century without revolving in videogame terminology, an absolute filter because the slow pace can be unbearable and THE soundtrack.
For otaku culture, it comes up to my mind: Otaku no Video and akihabara@deep, I know the live action but apparently has novel and manga.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wI1Et1DKlok This ain't available anywhere but I'm looking for the DVD. It's about an imageboard story of a former NEET struggling on his first job at a shitty office, more of a comedy than something serious.
Not nippon neither takoo but reality checks.
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0074958/https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0427944/And I know you might put this in doubt because of the fantasy and the monsters but... the first 29 episodes of Kamen Rider Hibiki. It's not about the ootakoo culture but rather the personal struggle and seeking of a parental/tutor figure of a 15 year old. Quite a likable cast, very laidback feel with some brutal peaks and specially, a totally "alien" show coming from its franchise and field. Would suggest to watch some of the previous shows of the 2000s (Kuuga (dem thriller), Faiz (dem drama), etc...) for more impact but it's your choice, quite enlightening shows if you're an animehead though.
>>1246590>completely misses the pointI think it's natural to want more of this harsh treatment of the subject cuz it's something different than the usual. While the rest tend to be between compelling and romantic about it and other subjects.
