>cont from >>894328>HKCR\PSP.EXE (or whatever it's called in HKCR\.png\OpenWithProgidsThis one was odd. There was no "PSP.EXE" under HKCR, but there was "PaintShopPro":
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\PaintShopPro]
@="Paint Shop Pro Image"
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\PaintShopPro\protocol]
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\PaintShopPro\protocol\StdFileEditing]
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\PaintShopPro\protocol\StdFileEditing\server]
@="C:\\PSP\\PSP.exe"
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\PaintShopPro\protocol\StdFileEditing\verb]
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\PaintShopPro\protocol\StdFileEditing\verb\0]
@="Edit"
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\PaintShopPro\shell]
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\PaintShopPro\shell\open]
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\PaintShopPro\shell\open\command]
@="C:\\PSP\\PSP.EXE %1"
>(or whatever it's called in HKCR\.png\OpenWithProgidsThere was actually nothing related to PSP.EXE:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.png\OpenWithProgids]
"pngfile"=""
So there are those, if you (or anyone else) can see what's going on or offer any advice, it's be great. At this point right now I'm considering either trying to edit existing keys after making backups of them, OR...since it _is_ just a simple 16-bit program that installs in literally two seconds, just trying a complete uninstall through Control Panel, system reset, and then just reinstall it. In theory I think that should work but I hate doing things that way as I haven't actually fixed the problem, I've just taken the lazy way out, and don't gain any understanding to help me deal with such issues in the future.
Anyway, thanks for your initial replies, and thanks to you and anyone else for reading. Have a pleasant image as a token of my appreciation.
