Help me decide which one to pick up as a hobby. I know this is extremely subjective, but I’d love to hear your experiences and what you think I should consider before committing to one of them.
What attracts me to 3D modeling is how useful it feels. You can 3D print things, which has unlimited potential, stuff like figurines, useful stuff around the house, and so on. I’m also a big fan of board games and RPGs, so the idea of designing my own game pieces or even making my own mod for games like Tabletop Simulator sounds amazing. But the process also looks pretty tedious, and I’m not sure if I’m underestimating how difficult it really is. Time isn’t an issue for me, but I’d like the learning process to be at least somewhat enjoyable. Also, I’m not interested in animation at all as it just doesn’t appeal to me.
Drawing, on the other hand, feels less useful in a practical sense, but maybe it’s more fun and fulfilling as a hobby? I know it could take years before I get decent at it, but if it’s enjoyable, that might be worth it. I also like that drawing doesn’t force you into sitting in front of a computer, since I am already a bit burned out from staring at a screen all day as a software developer (though not so much that I stop coming here).
