best advice I can give is look at what makes these images unnerving. You want it staring fromthe dark? use that.
Hide just enough so as you can see some of its face, make the eyes the brightest part and if you want an open toothy mouth then show maybe just the top half. But most importantly, don't show the body. Whatever you have in mind is nothing compared to what an audience can dream up in their own head, due to the subjectivity of one's fear.
