I noticed some other authors would stop writing the WN version for fear it would cannibalize sales of the LN.
As an example of differences, the published LN version has an entire extra volume on the adventures the first time they went to sea. The WN is therefore missing all that extra adventuring as they have additional new things happening in the LN. The LN is definitely more polished as compared to the WN freebie.
Death March is another LN that I liked especially since the author kept on writing the free WN version all the way to the ending. I'm glad he kept on supporting the fans who liked the WN version. The print version LN is more polished and has extra side stories in it. The author also said he tried to expand on some of the events in the WN in order to improve the LN version of the story.
