>>861259>If its got those elements then its more than just "stupid anime bullshit that that used mechs to sell figurines" and you wouldn't be trying to sell it shortI'm not selling it short. It knows how absolutely ridiculous its premise (pokemon with plastic toy robots BUY THE TOY ROBOTS) is, so it runs with it and turns everything up to 11.
>character writingAdmittedly it's EVA for kids, but that doesn't stop it having half-a-dozen well-realised characters exploring what motivates people to play with plastic robots, and what they enjoy about the hobby. Even the Ash-like protagonist is more than a cardboard cutout. Of course they become better people through their experiences of playing with toy robots BECAUSE TOY ROBOTS ARE GREAT AND YOU SHOULD BUY THEM, but it still counts as character development.
>worldbuildingIt has:
- plastic robot fight club
- plastic robot aidoru
- plastic robot works teams
- plastic robot Mafia
- plastic robot INTERPOL
>story development and pacingAs well as fitting in a pokemon-style tournament, it makes time for a conspiracy spanning parallel worlds where plastic robots both endanger and save the entire planet.
>triviaGBF was so unexpectedly good that the entire team was reallocated to an up-and-coming franchise called "boku no hero academia". The sequels are by a different director and writer and are just stupid anime bullshit that that used mechs to sell figurines.
