Not a fan of most weeb shit, the tropes rub me the wrong way.
2. I read my last manga probably 8 or 9 years ago and even if I could remember what all I read, I wouldn't trust my judgement back then.
3. Alright. I liked this one because the characters were mostly a-typical: they were all old, flawed, and believable. The moments where my disbelief faltered either had plausible excuses- the main character is literally insane, for example- or were short enough to be brushed past. The gore seemed practical, details were above-average and frankly the characters grew on me. Ah, and I really appreciate the artstyle- the people are ugly and the 'tracings' grate, but it didn't really bother me. They look like people, rather than cartoons.
Not to mention the sex/nudity hooks were still engaging. Pic was probably the worst offender there, what with the FULL-FRONTAL and a plot-armor ending, but the tension throughout was great- the contrast between their intimacy and the life-or-death going on right outside & some plot development to boot-- I couldn't put it down.
Hmm, I think I got a couple volumes into Gantz a few years back, but I stopped because it started to feel like the typical 'Angsty teen gets super-powers' plot and the guy behind the curtains pulling the strings became too obvious- iirc the guy's super-suit failed out of NOWHERE at some point so he could have another overly-dramatic moment.
