Looking for an image from long ago that posits a theory on waifus from a developer/coding perspective. It involved Miku (because of course it did), and theorized that when someone takes her as a waifu, they take an instance of her and keep it in a static form regardless of her development in the source material. Then another person takes her as a waifu, which creates another instance. In this way, everyone has a different instanced version of the waifu.
