You can do this via group policy.
Win + R, then enter "gpedit.msc" to open the group policy editor.
Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Windows Components -> Windows Update -> Configure Automatic Updates
I like to have this set to just notify. Which you can do, if you change it from "Not Configured" to "Enabled". You'll then be able to configure automatic updates in the options below. You can also just set it to disabled, which will entirely disable automatic updates.

No additional software needed.
