I mainly say because we can list off a lot of classics for you to watch but maybe he hasn't seen them and instead just watches popular stuff. If you just want anime that he's most likely seen, try these:
>Death Note>Cowboy Bebop>Hunter x Hunter 2011 (quite long though at 148 episodes)>Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood (also a bit long, 64 episodes)>Space Dandy>Neon Genesis Evangelion>Jojo's Bizarre Adventure (has multiple seasons spanning around 200 episodes, but watching part 1/2/3 is like 40 episodes)>Monster>Steins;Gate>One Punch ManAll normie picks but they're good starting points and they're popular enough that he's sure to have seen one or mulitple. I'd say watch Jojo first as it'll be the safest pick. All of these are dubbed too if that's a selling point for you.
