Are there any good sites for direct downloading anime? I know Nyaa exists for torrenting, but is there a direct downloading equivalent?

How about XDCC. This is for back when HorribleSubs was a thing, but it's basically the same with SubsPlease now. https://subsplease.org/xdcc/
If you want stuff outside of seasonal anime, then there's also the nibl packlist. Just understand it will be smaller than what you can find through torrenting. https://nibl.co.uk/search

Look into open directories. There's plenty for anime. If you need them, you might be able to get subs elsewhere, like kitsunekko.net .
