So my New 3DSXL recently broke such that it won't boot, and Nintendo said they couldn't repair it so they offered a replacement. However, they could do nothing to save my data. I requested to at least get my SD card back, since it was high capacity, and they prompted me to call their number. The employee I called told me they could just ship back my broken 3ds and I could apparently grab the files from the SD card onto my computer, and then use the computer to get my save data back.
I thought you couldn't do that, in fact was pretty sure you couldn't, but the employee insisted that I could. However, when I googled how to do this, I was told that this is impossible, as I thought, because of whatever fuckery nintendo does in order to prevent piracy. So now I'm confused, is there a way to get save data from a system that cannot boot? If not, did the employee straight up lie to me?
