They are, but you may bounce off the game due to difficulty so checking base game is recomended.
Crimson court maks game even more difficult so even if u buy it u might want to play without it at first (at least without new dungeon).
Shieldbreaker is one of most op char.
Color of Madness is more of end game stuff.
