If you truly care most about animation, any of the expo style projects is probably your best bet. Memories, Neo Tokyo, Anima(tor) expo, Genius Party as the other anon said, Robot Carnival.

Adolescence of Utena, arguably you should have seen the series first but it'd probably be fine. It won't make any more sense if you do.
