This should be the first thing you try, in case the only thing corrupted was the filesystem structure...

If bits and pieces everywhere got corrupted, you're fucked anyway.

If it's important for you, unplug it right now and keep it somewhere safe. Send it to a data recovery company when you can/have enough money to.

because if you close it you have to do a full scan again, but since it's a 500gb drive no biggie. sucks with 8TB drives
