I have shows on my harddrive, how do i play them on a tv?
My tv is connected to my home network, is it possible to cast it from my computer at a reasonable speed?

Both your computer and TV should be on the same network. There should be a setting on your computer to broadcast or share your screen into a device (if your computer supports it). You choose your TV from there.

I do what your trying to do with a Firestick with Kodi installed. The downside is that some formats like MKV are laggy since the Firestick doesnt have the best CPU.

yeah that's normal
i had the same problem
you have several options:
>option 1: buy an amazon fire stick and use it ($27.99)
>option 2: buy a raspberry pi 3 and install kodi on it and use it ($25.00)
>option 3: convert the mkv files with ffmpeg into mp4 files. (You need to take additional steps if these files contain subtitles) ($0)
