How do I pass the digital audio from my console through to my desktop? I have a capture card I can use.

My setup is: consoles deliver audio into tv via hdmi or rca. Tv has an optical out. Optical cable goes into a cheap sound card with optical in which I bought exclusively for that purpose (Recon 3d). Windows is set up to 'listen' to optical in so I can always hear its sound. Tv itself is muted (rather turned volume to zero so it won't always show mute icon).
