math rational equation formula help

Here's my formula, no idea where I'm going wrong with it.
6x/(x+4) + 4 = 2x+2/(x-1)
=6x(x-1) +4(x+4)(x-1) = 2x+2/(x+4)
=6x^2-6x+4x+16 =4x+8
I'm lost after that, don't really know the formula for equations with both numerator and denominator terms having coefficients. Watched all of "The Organic Chemistry Tutor" 's videos on the subject but non of his examples had the formula for this.

In the second step, you need to multiple the left term by (x-1)/(x-1) - which of course is just 1, the middle 4 by (x+4)(x-1)/(x+4)(x-1) - which again, is just 1, and the right term by (x+4)/(x+4) - which of course is also just 1.

The second step should be. 6x(x-1)/(x+4)(x-1) + 4(x+4)(x-1)/(x+4)(x-1) = 2x+2(x+4)/(x+4)(x-1)

You should notice all three denominators are the same. That's the point. That's the whole purpose of doing this. One the denominators are the same, the numerators can be added and subtracted.

The 'formula' is just multiplying every term by some value of '1' to make everything have the same denominator. And remember you can *always* multiply a term by 1 without changing it.

You need to put parentheses around your terms, so
6x/(x+4) + 4 = (2x+2)/(x-1)
>=6x(x-1) +4(x+4)(x-1) = (2x+2)/(x+4)
The second step was corrected by >>1121226
6x(x-1)/(x+4)(x-1) + 4(x+4)(x-1)/(x+4)(x-1) = (2x+2)(x+4)/(x+4)(x-1)
Also note your first =: With the correction it is okay to write that, since you are just multiplying by 1, but take care to omit them if you are manipulating the equations differently, e.g.
a - b = c
a = b + c

>(x+4)(x-1) = 4x+16, etc.
(a + b)(c + d) = ac + ad + bc + bd
You have four summands (Left, Outer, Inner, Right or something similar to remember that).
Also take care to put again parentheses around
the terms if you are multiplying that by other terms, so e.g.
4(x+4)(x-1) = 4 (x^2 + 4x - x - 4) = 4x^2 + ...
