Kaiji is about a 20 something loser who finds himself with a debt he can't pay off and has to gamble his way out of it in shady underground gamble dens run by the Yakuza.
Buraiden Gai is about a teenager who goes to an awful youth rehab/juvenile detention center for a crime he didn't commit and tries to figure out a way to prove his innocence while still in the prison. The guards don't give a shit about the prisoner's well being and usually subject them to punishments close to torture (at least in one scene) to make them become proper members of society again.
There's also stuff like Akagi and Ten but those require Mahjong knowledge, and other ones like Gin to Kin and Zero but you can decide if you like his stuff from Kurosawa, Kaiji and Buraiden Gai (although, I don't think Buraiden Gai is one of his best)
