The only decent "free" VPNs I've used are either VPN Gate or Proton VPN. Other VPN services I've used really limit how long you are able to use the free VPN service.

Also both of these are not ideal for downloading torrents. Proton does not allow P2P shares and I think VPN Gate download speeds are kinda slow.

okay, that's indeed rational. I'm in the same position myself. yesterday I was planning to drop $48 dollars on ProtonVPN's basic plan, but I've decided to set up my own VPN server on a VPS that I was going to get anyways. you do you.

My personal choice would be Windscribe, but they aren't 100% free. You can get like 15gb of data free per month, but if you want unlimited then you've gotta pay.

I will not say anything that implicates crime, but you've gotta believe me when I say that It Just Works™. The only situation in which I'd say to stay away from Windscribe is if you're living in Canada, they are Canada based and have to act with direct compliance to local feds if it's a domestic matter.

No, the piracy VPN providers just say "welp we're an ISP and we would pass it on but we didn't keep any logs", whereas a server farm will go "oh, that's X's server, X B&".

That article is old though. ramnode apparently changed their TOS since it was written since I can't find any mention of torrenting in it now.
Might just chicken out and buy a protonVPN or a seedbox like you said. I liked the idea of setting it up myself though since at least I'd learn something that way.
