>>1137283>why are i5 processors still being madeThey're the midrange, Intel upped the core count a few years ago so they're now 6 core iirc. The better question is why did the i7 line get split into i7 and i9, where i9s are literally just i7s but slightly faster.
>Is the the oldest i9 better or worse than the newest i5?Technically, the oldest i9 is better, but it comes with the caveat that the oldest i9 is actually an X-Series (7th gen) which have 10+ cores. If you compare the oldest mainstream i9s (9th gen) to the latest i5s, the difference is fuzzier.
Latest i5s:
>6C12T>support AVX-512>support up to DDR4-3200>20 PCIe lanes>512KB L2 / 12MB L3>has DL Boost instructions9th gen i9s:
>8C16T>supports up to DDR4-2666>no AVX-512>16 PCIe lanes>256KB L2 / 16MB L3Depending on the exact work load, you'll get better performance on either one. The old i9s will have the edge in purely core constrained workloads, while the i5s will have the edge in workloads that benefit from the newer instruction sets. I'd guess it'll be negligible in most cases, but I'm not 100% sure of how much of an impact AVX-512 will have in Maya/rendering versus just having additional cores.
