Looking for recs for any anime or manga that base the stories on real life historical events. I recently watched and read Maria the virgin witch and enjoyed the bits of historical accuracy in it about not only the 100 years war, but about the history of Europe, religion, and witch hunts.
I am reading historie. I dropped vinland saga and Ad Astra. Any other recommendations? Can be western civs, eastern civs, any culture. Any time period.

Not purely historical but try Drifters. It's an action Isekai with historical figures, there are a lot of trivia, references and jokes about history and war. It has an anime and a manga which is still ongoing.

i get what you're trying to look for but shit like that is usually worse than the regular fantasy stuff you get in manga because its created by retards infatuated with europe and just have a fetish for history rather than making a good story
Dívčí Válka is a good example of this, tries too hard to be berzerk and some autistic "at the end of the day we all got back together and sang right after attempting to create an atmosphere of death and war"

And oh, Kutsuzure Sensen. It is similar to Maria the Virgin Witch in its magic-and-witches-in-historical-wars setting, but it is WW2 Eastern Front, and much more light-hearted and comical. Its "Whisper of the Screw" omake is filled with trivia.
