Wattpad
as someone who used to read fanfic in middle school, stick with fanfiction.net since AO3 is too sexual and Wattpad is just cringworthy and embarassing. I don't know if any new ones have popped up, but i think tumblr has fanfiction writers on there. good luck if you try to venture through there though.

As someone who still enjoys fanfiction this is basically still valid except for some fan bases.
Also stuff is cross-posted between ffn.net and ao3 all the time.

Finally, the best place to find stuff is TVTropes.
