How bad of idea is it to say you use 4chan on something rather public, like a Youtube video?
I have no intention of being some giant e-celeb who get his dick sucked daily by twitterfags, but I still wonder how many people will get “turned off” by some rando on internet saying he browses here.

At best you can say that you just browse it for lulz or to laugh at idiots. You won't convince anyone that 4chan is a nice place to discuss cooking recipes at /ck/, as 4chan is usually equated to /b/ or /pol/ which have notorious reputation even here on 4chan.

This. Historically it has been very bad to admit (4chan used to be associated with pedos and "dangerous hackers"), but these days 4chan is very mainstream among internet-savvy people. Non-internet-savvy people will think it's an alt-right haven full of nazis (and it's not hard to see where they're coming from given how ubiquitous /pol/tards sperging out are these days) and 4chan veterans will think it's incredibly cringy to publicly talk about 4chan.

While it might not be career-destroying or anything, you can only lose by admitting it.

I was browsing /sci/ once and someone asked me why I was on 4chan. I told them to find stuff out about science and then he said something to the effect of "It sounds like a place you would find a lot of racism and sexism" and left it at that.

As other posters here said, there's no upside to saying you browse 4chan. Most people still see it as either a hate website and/or a den of degeneracy. Even if you say you browse it for the lolz, people will look at you in suspect. Even my friends who like "edgy" or "degenerate" type humor still look at the site in moral contempt (I have no idea why).

I don't remember them ever noticing /b/ per say, just that they associate 4chan with /b/'s raids on the internet like pools closed. That and iirc the rules of the internet were on /b/ and normalfags commonly make jokes about rule 34.

That's the official story, but I see our memes getting used all over the place. Tik-tok tier zoomer channels will slap wojaks on top of their videos to make it more meme-y. The virgin vs. chad stuff is everywhere too.

I think nobody cares if you browse chans until they "catch" you for doing something else. Then the fact that you referenced chan culture can be used as additional evidence against you. But at that point the mod already has you pinned down so I doubt it makes much of a difference.
