>>1178723>the conspiracy theory that someone who died at a US embassy was a CIA agentThat part is at least partially true:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sean_Smith_(diplomat) - he was just an IT monkey though. There is no way to prove or disprove that he surreptitiously worked for the CIA obviously. Usually these theories go on to speculate that SomethingAwful administration was overtaken by the US government and that's the cause of SA turning leftist and SA jokes like /r/ShitRedditSays (which was originally satire) becoming unironic bastions of leftist name-and-shame activism. I don't know if any of that is true.
The idea that the CIA uses unencrypted communications in a closed source game that they have no control over is beyond silly though. I don't know what makes people read bizarre theories like that and think, "yeah that makes sense, I can see why intelligent people (who are probably being monitored 24/7 by friend and foe alike) working for one of the most powerful and technologically advanced intelligence agencies in the world would do something retarded and easily interceptable like that instead of just using the secure communications they already have".
If I didn't know better I'd think it's the CIA themselves trying to poison the well with absurd theories.
