Some people will reccomend you Legend of the galactic Heroes, but personally I don't like it and it's a very long show.
You might like:
-Gunbuster (6eps) war against aliens, time dilation, losing loved ones
-Nadia secret of blue water - steampunk, adventure, loosely based on 10 000 leagues under sea... It has 36 episodes I think, but like 12 are a horrible filler made by different studio, you can just skip that
-Evangelion - 26 episodes + movie (don't start with the remake) - mecha, depression, suidmcide... You know what just keep this in the back of your mind for now, maybe get to it when you are depressed one day
-Satoshi Kon movies - if you like to be somewhat confused
-Serial Experiments Lain (12 episodes) - technology, identity, God... Very confusing, impossible to understand on first watch
- Psycho Pass - this is a newer one, but it is about cyberpunk society governed by a computer that can accurately determine how you should live your life
