found these hard drives, tried connecting to my desktop with a 8 port sata pcie adapter, the shit motherfucking sparked green/blue and fizzled what the FUCK happened

did i use the wrong type of power cable ??????? i wanted to figure out what's on these because i assume it's raid + if i don't find bad blocks i can seed from these

No, there's probably something touching something somewhere. Pull the backplane off the disks, then connect it to a spare PSU and start it with the paperclip trick. Go from there.

You don't need to connect them simultaneously to do this, you can just image them.

You should have tested each drive individually to verify none of them were shorted out or have locked motor spindles. Of course, the first thing to do is gently shake the drive before you ever plug them into an external dock for testing. If you hear any tinkling, then that drive had been dropped and is broken inside the chamber.

Then, you look at the exposed circuit card. The motor drive controller chip should not look blown nor should the circuit card surround the chip look overheated. If so, there could have been a power supply problem or something shorted to the hard drive case (ie exposed wire from connector).

If there are no other visually apparent problems, then you can try plugging the individual drive into the external dock for testing.

Is there a separating insulator between each hard drive? This is because the circuit board has a lot of electrical connections exposed which can short out to the adjacent hard drive. But if you already shorted these, then the drives are ruined. Semiconductors aren't flesh and they don't heal back over time once you short them.

Hard drives have a surge current. So if you powered up your PC plus all these extra drives at once, that was probably a surge current your power supply didn't like.
