However after spending the last hour Googlefuing, I cant for the life of me find what this was called.

Anyone know what it was, And if it has been removed from windows?

That is intresting and looks like it works well.

However, Im not thrilled with the fact that if you want desktop capture, it needs you to install a java based application to inishiate a network seshion to there site.

RAT type aplications based in Java make me uncomfortable.

You're running a completely unsandboxed OS that does nothing to protect your processes and data from each other, and yet your concern is this specific application?

Why do you think I want the baked in feature Einstein.

I only install what i have to, and if i have to, I look for the best OSS / highly trusted and established solution.

When i did use it years ago, it was a lot more convenient then PrtSC + paint. if it is gone, then i will stick to the tride and true.

No-one said anything about VMs either way. But it sounds like you're using a desktop OS with no sandboxing (windows, linux, etc.), so you should have this concern with every executable you run, not just this one program that is for some reason especially sus. Anything you run can read your files and send them to China, there's nothing stopping it.

Thats just the reality of computing. it's the difference between leaving your bike unlocked in plain site with no monitoring, or locking it securely in a place with cctv.

Anyone can still take your bike with determination, But the chance of theft is significantly reduced.

you can go full ham and go and deposit your bike at Fort Knox, but the expense and inconvenience on using that bike is significantly increased.

But I'm not going to Fort Knox my computing environment to extreme inconvenience and expanse of time. I'm happy with a good bike lock equivalent.

Use only software that is established and trusted,
if it is unknown or sketchy, don't download it, or at least VM it.

SO... Do you know what the BUILT IN feature was called so i DONT HAVE TO Download anything to stop using screenshots and paint to draw red circles round shit.

No it's not, are you really unfamiliar with Windows Store, iOS, Android, ChromeOS, etc.?
The key to these OS's success is that you can just install random crap without having to worry about it having access to your entire computer. The OS containerises it and prevents it from accessing things it shouldn't be accessing, instead of you just hoping that it won't. Ever heard of ransomware for chromeOS? Not possible.

Do you think you have the expertise to do this? Because it sounds like you're just going "java sus". How would you architecture a website that takes screenshots, and how would your solution differ from theirs?

That is not it genius.

You would enable it, and it would take a screen shot on every action you took, annotate and highlight what you did regarding input. you then made some edits, and you were done.

It gave you a file (PDF or HTML) you could send to whoever.

I am very aware. have you not herd of all the data getting skimmed off them devices because of the attitude of, "it's all safe and sandbox so I'll download anything"

Java is sus. it is in the same category a flash when it comes to exploitability. There's a reason a lot of websites are starting to back down their Java backends.
I'm no programmer, so no, I can't make a solution. But I know enough to suspect a service that is still using java to integrate with its network. Especially after the j4log fiasco.

Pro tip, if you have run any programs that tweak windows like win10 debloter. it may have disabled a few telemetry components, which makes the step recorder fail to launch without any giveing errors.

You have to:
> open regedit
>go to:Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\AppCompat
>check to see if "DisableUAR" has been set to =1.
>Set it back to 0 and it will work just fine.
