>They did what now ?coomers made an extension that would embed a link to porn in images, and display the embedded images. this was already against 4chan's rules and supposedly someone may have embedded a link to CP at some point. 4chan's devs started an arms race of sorts with the extension's creator, trying to detect the embeds and prevent them from being posted. i'm not sure if this arms race is still going on or not.
anyway, around the same time, the dev also updated some things like the 3 new digits and VP9 support for webms. another significant change was that metadata is now completely stripped from gifs and webms, which changes their hash on archives.
