I have a couple of weird questions.

Where can I see a more thorough review of mechanical pencil lead cases? Either a channel or a page dedicated to it; I tried youtube but they don't show many types of them. I was looking into the ones with flashier mechanisms sold by Yu- Kuang Chem Corp, pic related, but I haven't found anything of the sort on youtube.

The other is what are some context acceptable yells ala timber, tamaya, and, uh, I don't know any more.

If I was reviewing them, I would simply say "The fancier the case to impress status-seeking buyers, the less chance I want that lead due to the wasted money. Cases with projections only snag on things and waste space.

Well, yeah, I feel the same but I was actually designing a sword for a story I was writing and wanted some inspiration for a sheath from those.
Like, I'm not even actually interested in mechanical pencil leads.

Heavy swords were carried as baggage until a situation appeared when they might be used. Then they would be attached to the side of the body in a sheath. Carrying a large sword sheath on the back as seen in anime and manga is not practical and the sword is difficult to draw and may even stab the person trying to draw it.

Only one light novel / manga dealt with this problem of back=mounted swords, and that was "I was reincarnated as a sword". In this case, the sheath mounted on the back also had side clasps on the sheath to allow the sheath to open up sideways so the large heavy sword could be removed that way.

Picrel from manga cover shows the size of the long sword, but as with many sword illustration artists, the details of the sheath were ignored as of little consequence..

It's described as a long sword in the web novel, light novel, and manga, but it seems sized like a great sword. If mounted on the back, the hilt would be above the person's head, so any heavy sword like that would be difficult to draw unless the author wrote in how the sheath could be quickly detached from the back mounting hardware and re-attached to the hip mount. That might be an innovative item in a story because other stories don't cover the impractical draw of a back-mounted sword.

That appeared earlier in Richard Morgan's novels.

Anyways, this was an Internet Argument a few years ago, and the internet did what the internet does best: go to great time and expense to prove someone wrong.

The eventual conclusion was that a back-scabbard is entirely practical and doesn't need mechanical parts, electronics, magnets or AI. It just needs to be designed differently than a waist scabbard, as shoulder pad would be designed differently than a kneepad: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0EWi2DnDoaI

Fred Saberhagen wrote interesting stories about various powerful unique swords. The books of the lost swords is long out of print and most libraries don't have them unless they are digitally available ebooks. They can still be read online legally for free as part of the online library experiment at the Internet Archive. To avoid the copyright lawsuit problem, the site emulated a library with the book "checked out" and returned so that another borrower could read it. The site obtains a donated physical book, then scans it, and makes the scan available as book that can be "checked out" from the library. While the user is reading it, no one else can read it just like a physical book is checked out and in the possession of the reader.

I recommend these Saberhagen sword stories. They are written in the old stilted prose of the 1960's and 1970's, but that's part of the charm?

Books are navigated with arrow keys. If you click on the edges of the book, it will emulate that you are opening the thick book at that location and you'll end up at page XXX instead of page 001. ha ha They really took the physical LIBRARY BOOK emulation a bit far to avoid the copyright lawsuits.

Another discovery is that you can drop a backpack and draw the sword that's tied to it in a quick, reliable and efficient manner: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mNZL2yw0yAo

If you're not planning on fighting whilst wearing a backpack, just hold the sword and drop the pack: the sword draws itself as the pack falls off, and doesn't snag on anything. You could then hang it off a belt hoop if it needs to be put to one side before recovering the scabbard is practical.

Note that none of this applies to Japanese swords: the sheath was considered part of the weapon system, used to help draw the sword, and could be a weapon in its own right.

It costs Master mana to hold that unnatural size, so he reverts to normal great sword size in everyday carry.

I didn't have a large sheath in mind but something that would hold a very thin sword, hence the sheath having a similar mechanism to the OP pic.
