How to Restore Only Some Files from a Checkpoint

How do I restore only select files and not the entire system from a system checkpoint?
>compress and move /d/ files onto external hard drive in preparation for NNN
>delete folder
>delete in recycle bin
>realize during deletion that was the entire personal/junk files that the /d/ folder was in
I made a system restore point a couple days ago, but that would restore faulty drivers.

Right click in a folder and select Properties, then under the last tab you can see all the older versions, these come directly from the restoration points.
However, your folder is pure data, it is questionable if that one was saved during creating restore points. Obviously Windows cannot in a point save EVERYTHING on the system, that would double the space usage every time. It's mostly the system itself that is saved. But if it WAS saved, you will see the folder when looking at the older versions of the superfolder.

But since you simply deleted it the best option would be to STOP USING THE DISK IMMEDIAELY and run an undeleter.
You just emptied the bin, the folder and files are still on there, they have just been marked as overwritable. Hence the stopping to use it since with more and more usage it becomes more ans more likely that something new by chance was written in place of one of the former files and it therefore overwritten.

It can. it just doesn't because users would complain about their work being "restored" away. Certain paths are deliberately excluded, this is how you can roll back to Windows 7, but keep your browser history.

No it wouldn't, google "copy on write".

I see Disk Drill as the highest rated one, but I tried it earlier and it didn't bring up anything that wasn't already on my disk.

WIth its placement and highlighting etc. that one in rings all advertising alarm bells.

Recuva and PhotoRec on the other hand are the most well known undeleters and since they are free there is nothig to gain and therefore reviews are more trustworthy.
I never heard of DiskDrill before seeing it on that site but I heard of Recuva and PhotoRec many times before. And for commercial ones the Easeus one.
