MPMan MP-F50.
Why? Because:
- 64MB, upgradable to 192MB
- no track names, just numbers
- removable storage
- have to use a janky app you probably have to compile yourself just to put songs on
- takes an AA battery
- huge and clunky
- still feels kinda plasticky
- SmartMedia cards feel like they're the fucking future

Look on eBay.
There's also an F70 which is a lot less janky and takes SD cards, but still has the retro aesthetic.

Sony nw-ms7. Nw-ms9 had replaceable aaa battery. You could wear them around your neck.
Had one way back, best earbuds ever they could go so loud you could use them as speakers.
Memorysticks are a take it or leave it affair they make micro sd adapters for them.
