finally decided to try reading manga, finished fire punch a few days ago. Looking for something preferably finished, that has large scale and decent fantasy elements.

Lucifer and the Biscuit Hammer/ Hoshi no Samidare.
A 10/10 masterpiece of the shounen genre
I recommend it as a must read for people of all ages.
It's a shame that the anime adaptation was bad.

While not fantasy Golden Kamuy is a very good adventure manga that ended at 300 or so chapters recently and if you want something to get invested in I would solidly recommend it.

I second Hoshi no Samidare as it is one of my favourite manga although I much prefer the author Mizukami's other 2 manga Sengoku Youko and Spirit Circle. Sengoku Youko in particular fits the large scale fantasy manga description rather well.

I prefer that author's other work, Bokurano. Not many works are able to present a "meaning of life" theme without being too edgy or too on the nose. Also the fights are really good.

I'm very interested in reading it as it seems exactly what I like, but it's not finished and I don't want to start something that I have to worry about keeping up with as like the 2nd manga I've ever read.

It's just a really good manga all around and it perfectly did what it intended to do in its genre. Even if I could, I would not change a single thing from it.

I can't help but notice a pattern:
- this is great, why has it been a decade and it hasn't had an anime
- you will see how great it is when the anime airs
- the anime doesn't capture how great it is

Biscuit hammer is just the latest one of these, Muv Luv springs immediately to mind.

Billy Bat might be something you'd like. About a cartoonist in the 50s trying to figure out why his creation has been seen in a manga in Japan and goes there to check it out only to find that his "creation" has had a dark history involving murders.

I personally love Rookies even if it's not entirely what you're looking for. About a teacher going to a school of delinquents to try and give them meaning in life and does this by bringing back the baseball team. Sounds boring but it's a fantastic manga due to the main character.

No it doesn't. That arc shows why MC was edgy and by resolving that arc he becomes less edgy, but not so much. It was a minor character development. The manga had prevalent coming of age themes.

If you can read Japanese or French, I recommend Efu no Shichinin.
There is also Violence Jack 20XX, but that one is almost finished.
The last chapter of VJ2K is in the upcoming 2022 No.12 issue of Monthly Young Magazine, and the final tankobon of VJ2K will be published months afterwards.
