This is a storage leak, which is the same thing, just on the disk.
Assuming you can do a decent restore, backing it up, resetting it, and restoring will probably fix it (though it won't tell you what went wrong).
Updating it might just fix it, because when these kind of things are discovered, the fix for the leak also cleans up the mess left behind.
It's always worth trying backing it up: if the backup isn't 100GB, that means it's not backed up the leak.
