I need some ideas for what to do with my life career wise.
I currently work in childcare and my favorite aspects of the job are:
>encouraged to try my own methods to problem solve
>controlled chaos atmosphere; there is always something to do and the stress is encouraging
>job has meaning
>doesn't feel like work to me
I'd preferably not have to go to college since it's so expensive

The hours aren't consistent year round in the sense that it isn't always a 40 hour work week minimum. Love where I'm at now but it's a bit of a dead end.

If you are having a job that you enjoy and the money allows you to live - keep it.
There is nothing worse than changing your career from something you enjoy to something that isn't guaranteed to be equally interesting.

And if money is a concern, work part-time as a night guard to supplement your income. It's a job that pays you for sleeping outside your own bed.

I understand what you mean. the job i have now doesn't feel like a "career" though. I still feel like I'm some idiot kid that's coasting and waiting for life to happen. A lot of the people I work with are my age (early 20s) but they're in school or training for something. I don't know why but for some reason it freaks me out to think they'd find me still working there, not having moved on. I feel like this job is supposed to be a transitional job into a "real life career". I feel like I should be doing something more

Zoomers were really a mistake.

If you have a job that you enjoy, that's THE most important shit about your work. Literally nothing else matters. I'm a land surveyor. It's a low-grade, low-pay job. But I'm paid for what I like to do - getting into decent pair of boots and go for a hike, that someone is paying me for. But prior to that, I was doing all kind of shit jobs, so guess that's why I can appreciate having something that I enjoy, rather than spending entire day dealing with some bullshit IT problem or being the poor fuck that is sitting with ArcGIS and has to turn survey data into actual map for the Land Office. Nor am I doing double-shift work in the iron foundry or in the railroad depo, where the only thing I wanted to do after I was done was sleep.
So if you have a job that you actually enjoy and the money is sufficient to get by - fucking keep it. You won a lottery ticket and you are complaining that the prize doesn't feel earned.

i'm 21. just trying to figure shit out man. I make enough money to cover my bills and save some but i still live with my folks and still covered by their insurance and whatnot. I'm anticipating when that won't be the case. My job is fine for now but getting older really fucking sneaks up on you and hits you in the face. I know I'm going to wake up one day and be 30 and I'm scared of being in the exact place I am now, at home with the same job with the same money, being a leech, not doing much else with my life. Maybe I just have a skewed idea of what adulthood is like

I don't know what I want. I made this thread hoping for some ideas as to what I might want to actually do. I could do this, could do that, I'm just not really sure and don't want to waste money

Would say i can relate to that, but i'm one of those who think about something and a few days sometimes weeks later the opportunity comes
E.g. thought about shooting bow in a club but didnt find one, few days later i Meet someone at work who does, not even far away, its the same for almost anything else
Only thing i can say for sure is that life is weird, if you'd told me at 21, what i'd been doing 5 years later, I would have laughed you off
Thats why you gotta do what you want, and if not knowing what you want bugs you, then its on you to find that out
Noone in his right mind would tell you to throw away a job you like for a career you might not like, just because it feels more adult
