Americans,

How many people know what "Senator's son" means in a war context? For example if someone is talking about war and they said "I know that I would get sent off whether I like it or not, I'm no Senator's son" would the person understand it?

One would hope everyone understands. Like everyone understands the phrase "Bob's your uncle", without even being from the UK or knowing who Bob is. You can easily discern the meaning from context

i think a lot of americans would be able to figure it out from that context if they didn't know it already. i don't think a lot of americans under 40 would know what it meant if you said it without context. everyone over 60 would know it instantly. we haven't had a draft in 50 years, so it hasn't been used much.

As a 30 year old American, without context I figured it probably had to do with them getting away with breaking laws or something due to nepotism/corruption in politics, but as soon as you used it in a sentence I understood it was about getting drafted.
