The furry characters didn't bother me or anything, and the reasoning for them was actually pretty clever, but I wouldn't say that was the appeal for me. I just really liked the writing, it was an interesting serious story with a lot of complexity, every episode it felt like I was thinking "Ah, that explains the thing that happened in that earlier episode" and everything was tied together in a very satisfying way.
So I don't know if any of that applies to Beastars but I think I lean more towards liking the mystery aspect of Odd Taxi. Unfortunately I've also seen Erased, it was good but it didn't quite hit me the way Odd Taxi did.

That was one of my first anime. Be warned though, it's overly heavy in fan-service, but its actual plot/story is wild.

I have hundreds of good movies I can watch if I want stories without moeshit. It's very easy to find good movies so I don't need to ask for any recs. I can turn on TCM any given day and there will be a good movie on. But with anime you have to sift through a shitload of moeshit. It's tedious and time-consuming. Hence the need to ask people for help looking for non-moeshit anime.
If you don't know enough about anime to help, that's okay. But other people can help.

Watch a movie instead, you don't need to be watching anime if you only want anime that comes without something that is in 90% of anime. Read the manga and was terribly board throughout. Half the characters look the same in the face, everyone's gimmick is "I look bored and I'm stressed and saaaaad". Action is meh at the best of times. Story makes no sense that some little puppy was somehow injured and had to beg a little boy to save it but at the same time is the omega deity of the underworld that can eliminate a demons cycle of resurrection. The gun demon can eliminate an entire city, killing 50,000 people, in 7 seconds yet couldn't kill 1 guy who's completely melee. Main character is boring, no character is necessarily outstanding, and other than a few cool, unexplained powers here and there, it has nothing going for it.
