Can anyone tell me why /a/ despises recommendation threads so much, that they will even accuse people of trying to get recommendations without directly asking for them?
I don't know any other board with this paranoid obsession, nor do I know any board that's been overrun by constant recommendation threads or anything like that.

Because it's incredibly easy to find anime recommendations on the internet. Even more is the fact that for many years /a/ made recommendation charts and they were very easy to find if you lurked like /a/ tells everyone too. /a/ wants you to develop your own taste, not borrow someone else's.

Because someone making a "X anime was the best Y ever" in order to get people to reply with similar shows as a "stealth rec thread" method is a everyday occurrence. If anon mistakes your genuine thread for a stealth rec thread you probably didn't put any effort into your post.

Generic rec threads don't produce quality discussion about media. All they amount to is copypasted lists of media posted without commentary, even after it's obvious that OP left long ago. Them some other schmuck comes along, ignores the catalog and makes a new thread, so you get a bunch of rec threads at all times on boards that don't delete those on sight. Sometimes OP complains about the recs even though he failed to specify what he wanted in the first place. They also attract bait, spam and shitshow in general.
Ideally, rec threads would be about inquiring about specific series, companies, creators, especially stuff that's hard to get. But that's too much to ask from a bored dumbass weeb that can't research anything on his own.

/a/ is not intended to be accessible to new guys who know nothing and will contribute nothing to the conversation. There's no lack of "people who watch anime", and no need to try to increase that number by coddling and onboarding people who aren't already familiar with anime to the extent that they could participate in /a/. Quite the opposite, by being openly hostile to new guys, these people are filtered out.

When you open a general, there will be people posting the exact same catchphrase over and over in each thread. Sometimes they even use a tripcode. If you don't know what I'm talking about, read some generals on cesspools like /vg/ or /jp/ and you'll see what I mean.
